Dr. Cooley Is Now Offering Salivary DNA Tests To Fight Gum Disease!
One of the most significant advances in dental medicine, a simple DNA test, can now determine the specific type and quantity of disease-causing bacteria in your mouth! These bacteria, if left untreated, can cause periodontal disease, tooth loss, and also effect your risk for developing other systemic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes (among others). This exciting new test is for anyone with symptoms of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Symptoms include: bleeding, red, or inflamed gums, bad breath, or bone loss around your teeth. In some cases, we utilize these tests prior to surgery (such as heart or joint replacement surgery).
This gentle oral rinse procedure is performed by swishing a small amount of sterile saline throughout the mouth and can be done in about 30 seconds. The sample is sent to Oral DNA labs for processing. The results of the test identify the bacteria associated with the gum infection and allow us to treat the cause of the infection and not just the symptoms. The goal of the therapy then becomes to reduce your overall bacterial risk for disease progression.
If you or a loved one is in need of one of these tests, please call our office for more information. It is our mission to offer you the most cutting edge, comprehensive oral-systemic healthcare available.

New technologies in dentistry.... We are excited to offer the use of lasers in dentistry at our office. Dr Cooley and his dental assisting team have had extensive training in the use of the laser allowing us to offer laser techniques including delivery of anesthesia without an injection in some cases, soft tissue recontouring (eliminating/reducing a "gummy smile"), certain types of periodontal treatments, and the ability to reduce the duration of fever blisters & ulcers!
Now available .... Durathin prepless veneers! The trend in dentistry today is to conserve as much tooth as possible while creating the most beautiful smile available. Dr. Cooley recently received training and certification in a new, advanced technique known as "prepless" veneers. This technique involves minimal or no tooth reduction yet allows Dr. Cooley to change the shape, size, and color of your existing smile. Dr. Cooley is one of the first dentists in the U.S. to be trained in this procedure! While not all cases will be candidates for prepless veneers, many are. Call our office today for a consultation.
Oral Cancer Screening Tools .... Our practice is thrilled to offer a state-of-the-art device called the VELscope Oral Cancer Screening System. Along with our conventional oral screening exam, which includes looking inside your mouth for any lesions that might be visible to the naked eye and feeling your neck for any suspicious bumps, the VELscope allows us to see beneath the surface to detect potentially dangerous growths we might have otherwise missed. The VELscope exam takes about 2 minutes as part of a regular hygiene appointment, involves no pain or inconvenience, and is completely safe. We think you will find the additional cost for this exam to be very reasonable. We also believe you'll appreciate the peace of mind that this screening can provide.
