Root canal therapy becomes necessary when the inner tissues within a patient's teeth roots become infected.
This tissue, called pulp, causes pain, swelling, and eventually tooth loss if left untreated alone, as it spreads infection to surrounding tissues. During root canal therapy, Drs. Cooley and Vick remove this pulp and other infected tissues, then cleans the inside of a patient’s tooth. Next, he fills the tooth and covers it with a dental crown. A dental crown fits snugly over and protects patients’ weakened natural teeth.
